Step 01: Navigate to VitalSource Bookshelf Online

Click the button below to navigate to VitalSource Bookshelf Online. The page will open in a new tab.

Step 02: Sign-in Using Your Existing Account

If you have an existing VitalSource Bookshelf account, enter your Email Address and Password and click Sign-in. Continue to Step 06 after you have signed-in.

If you do not have an existing VitalSource Bookshelf account, continue to Step 03.

Step 03: Begin the Registration Process

If you do not have an existing VitalSource account, you will need to create one. Click Create an account to start the registration process.

Step 04: Complete the Registration Page

After clicking Create an account, you will be navigated to the VitalSource account registration page.

You will need to complete the following information to register for a VitalSource account:

A. Enter your first name and last name.

B. Enter your email address and confirm it by entering it a second time in the Confirm Email box.

C. Enter a password for your account, then confirm your password. The password must contain:

  1. at least 8 characters
  2. an uppercase letter
  3. a lowercese letter
  4. a special character

D. Choose a security question form the dropdown list, then type the answer in the Security Answer box.

E. Select whether you want to receive updates from VitalSource or note.

F. Read the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy by clicking Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Check the box once you are done reading.

G. Click Create to create your new account


Step 05: Redeem Your E-textbook Code

To access your e-textbook, you will need to redeem the code that was provided to you. You can begin the redemption process by :

A. Clicking Redeem Code on the main screen. This button will only appear if you have no other e-books in your Bookshelf.

B. Clicking Redeem from the menu across the top.


Step 06: Enter Your E-textbook Redemption Code

To complete the redemption code exactly as it was provided to you in the box labelled Code.

Click Redeem to redeem your e-textbook.


Step 07: Open your E-textbook

Once your e-textbook is redeemed, you will be redirected to your Bookshelf.
Click on the image of your e-textbook to open it.


Step 08: Navigate Your E-textbook

You can navigate through your e- textbook in several ways. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the navigation in Bookshelf.

A. Use the search, to search for a specific topic or page in the textbook. First click  then type in the content you are looking for in the search window that appears.

B. Use the table of contents, to navigate to a specific chapter and page within the e-textbook. First click  then use the table of contents to browse for a specific chapter or page.

C. Use the page number box, located in the navigation bar across the bottom, to type in the page number of a specific page

D. Use the progress bar, located in the navigation bar across the bottom, to scroll forward or backward through the e-textbok

E. Use the navigation arrows, located on either side of the e-textbook content, to move forward one page or back one page

 

Step 09: Highlight Important Content

It may be useful to highlight a specific liner or paragraph in your e-textbook. Highlighting denotes something as important or for further revie.wke

A. Select the text you wish to highlight by clicking at the start of the text and dragging to the end.

B. Select the highlighter to use from the coloured circles in the menu that appears. You can choose from: Exam(Yellow), Important(Green), Clarification(Blue).

C. Click Add Highlight form the menu to highlight the text.

Step 10: Make a Note of Key Points

You may also wish to make a note about a specific line or paragraph righ in your e-textbook. Similar to placing a sticky note on your physical text, you can add notes in Bookshelf as well.

A. Select the text you wish to add a note to by clicking at the start of the text and dragging to the end.

B. Select the highlighter to use from the coloured circles in the menu that appears. You can choose from: Exam(Yellow), Important(Green), Clarification(Blue).

C. Click Add Note from the menu to add a note to the text

 


A text box will pop-up, type the note that you wish to make in the space provided and click anywhere outside the note to close it.


Step 11: Review Highlights and Notes

You can review all of your highlights and notes in one easy to access screen. This makes reviewing and exam preparation easier.

A. Click on  from the left-hand menu.

B. In the menu that open, search for or browse through the highlights and notes you have taken


Step 12: Zoom and Read the Pages

To make the text easier to read, you may wish to zoom in on a specific page. You can click Fit Width or Fit Height to automatically zoom to the size of your screen.

A. Click on  from the left-hand menu

B. In the menu that open, change the zoom to the desired level or click Fit Width or Fit Height to automatically resize.
